Tribute to Congressman Walter E. Fauntroy
Thursday August 22, 2013 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
$25Living with the Law in cooperation with the United Black Fund and Operation Beloved Communities for Peace will host a Tribute to Congressman Walter E. Fauntroy on the Eve of the historic 50th Year Anniversary of the March on Washington.
The Tribute will be held at Tony Cheng's Restaurant in D.C.'s Chinatown, on Thursday, 22 August 2013, beginning at 7:00 p.m. and will feature a Buffet Dinner, Live Music and Special Presentations. The cost to attendees is $25.
Congressman Fauntroy served in the House of Representatives for two decades, after having served as Vice-Chair of the appointed D.C. Council. At the same time, he was the Pastor of the Church of his childhood, New Bethel Baptist, while leaving an indelible mark across the landscape of America. In the history of Washington DC, no other person has had the impact of advancing the rights of the people of the District of Columbia more than Congressman Walter E. Fauntroy. As a soldier for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. he convinced Dr. King to join him in pushing for D.C. Home Rule. As a member of Congress, he played a pivotal role in getting the House and Senate to pass the D.C. Voting Rights Amendment – by super-majorities, two-thirds of each body! The greatest Tribute you can pay for his unparalleled work is to join in helping to lobby Congress to support the D.C. Statehood Bill. You may do so by signing up at the Tribute or sending your contact information to AttorneyJB@comcast.net.
This will be an event that marks another milestone in America's muddied history when it comes to race, rights and equal treatment.
